FACULTY OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES
AUT University's North Shore campus in Akoranga Drive, Northcote on Auckland city's North Shore is home to the Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences with the School of Applied Sciences based at Wellesley Street, City Campus. The North Shore campus is also home to the School of Education, Faculty of Applied Humanities.
As New Zealand’s largest and most diverse health and environmental science education provider the Faculty assumes a major responsibility. We prepare graduates to enter the health, environmental and related professions and provide postgraduate and continuing education for practitioners. We undertake research to advance knowledge, improve health care and our natural environment. In these and other ways we seek to enhance the wellbeing of New Zealanders.
In the Faculty there are students who assist at births and who console the dying. We have coaches training New Zealand’s sporting icons working alongside therapists teaching people to walk again. Our scientists are unraveling the mysteries of our oceans, working alongside experts who are delivering clean water to developing countries.
Our academic staff are hands on practitioners as well as teachers and researchers. The professor who advises on government policy is as likely to guide a first year student through an essay assignment.
So what brings such a diverse group together? They come to access an unequalled repository of national and international expertise and participate in a unique learning environment where ideas flow freely between professions. They have recognised a desire within themselves, or a need within the community, that must be fulfilled. If you are considering joining the Faculty as a student we welcome you to a stimulating educational community, where you can become one of the best prepared, most sought after health, environmental science or related professionals in New Zealand.
